In a 2005 interview with this magazine, when asked "What is your favorite place in Yaeyama?" Shimada Shinsuke answered "I like Kuroshima."
Now, 14 years later, if we visit Kuroshima with his words as a hint, we may find something that gives us pause to think about the future of Yaeyama.
