A direct sales store for original spirits has opened in Kabira, made with rum made from Ishigaki Island's sugarcane and island fruits such as pineapple, guava, and passion fruit! You can purchase drinks while enjoying a conversation with the store manager, Mr. Shikano, who has worked as a bartender for over 20 years and has a wealth of knowledge about alcohol.

Cafe & Bar Zen is located a two-minute walk from Euglena Mall. The interior was designed and created by the owner, Yasuma, who loves antiques and Ghibli movies. The interior is unified with vintage furniture and has a calm atmosphere like a traditional coffee shop, but there are also playful features scattered throughout, making it an exciting space to visit.

This is an izakaya on Kohama Island where you can enjoy dishes made with fresh island ingredients. They have a wide lineup of dishes, from Okinawa-style a la carte dishes using local ingredients, sashimi and fish dishes using fresh seafood caught in nearby waters, their specialty "shima oden" with a rich and gentle broth, and even standard dishes like Yaeyama soba to rice bowls.

Umi no Hana is known for its sushi made with fresh seafood. The "Tsukezushi" that was introduced last year is a masterpiece that condenses the flavor of extremely fresh yellowfin tuna and squid by slowly marinating them in a special sauce. The "Aburi Mackerel Bo Sushi" is also popular, and you can enjoy the exquisite balance of the flavor of the fat and the aroma.

Located right in front of the Kannon-do Temple, "FLOAT." is a restaurant where you can enjoy Mexican-American cuisine such as taco rice, nachos, chili con carne, etc. From the terrace seats, you can see the endless ocean, and on clear days you can see the whole of Taketomi Island.

At Cafe Lakshmi, located near the Euglena Ishigaki Port Remote Island Terminal, you can enjoy the popular new dessert "Itogoori." Itogoori is made by carving a unique mixture of ingredients using a special machine, and is characterized by its soft and delicate texture. Lakshmi uses ingredients from the island as much as possible, and one of its attractions is that you can enjoy the seasonal flavors of Ishigaki Island, such as mangoes and purple sweet potatoes, together with the dessert.

Desir, a hideaway restaurant on Ishigaki Island, is a special space where you can enjoy a luxurious time in a calm atmosphere with a view of the sea. The owner's original dishes are available for 1,500 yen per person, and include an appetizer, main course, and pasta, and the main course can be prepared according to your preferences and wishes, such as meat or fish.

At the Ishigakijima Ham and Sausage Jugobanchi Public Market Store, you can enjoy hot dogs and ham sandwiches made with Jugobanchi's ham and sausage, which are made with Yaeyama ingredients! There is also an eat-in space, so it is recommended to use it for lunch after shopping. #15 軽トラックかりて
小浜島のシュガーロード。両側にサトウキビ畑が広がるまっすぐに伸びた坂道で、この道を走行する軽トラックが2003年に発表された楽曲『軽トラックかりて』の源泉になっている。 ある時「ポっという感じだった」と、曲が産声を上げた瞬間を振り返る。歩きながらハミングするような、自然の流れで生まれたという。

#12 HELLO MAMA

Swinging frog. And feeling frog.
When people from other regions don't understand the words they use, that's when most people realize, "Oh, that's a dialect!" When I'm curious about a dialect, I'm the type to look it up in a dictionary rather than on the internet, but the words we use are subtly different from the traditional Yaeyama dialect. The original meaning of a word may be narrower, or conversely, it may be broader...

A story that is hard to notice
Here's a question! "If there's no kaane~, let's go to the sea~♪" - this part of "Ojii Jiman no Orion Beer/BEGIN" has an expression that is different from standard Japanese, but where is it? Incidentally, here is also the sentence-ending expression "〇〇sa~" that mainlanders often use when imitating the Okinawan dialect, but that's not what we're looking at today. Try looking in one more place. I'll give you a hint. In "National Route 508/BEGIN" there's the part that goes "Let's load up the white truck~♪". Here, too, the same Yaeyama-specific expression as before is used. Did you get it?

Is the language of Ishigaki an Okinawan dialect?
"Say something in the Yaeyama dialect!" If you are from Yaeyama, this is a phrase that you will have heard at some point in your life, or maybe many times. At such times, what would you tell people outside the island as the Yaeyama dialect? "Haisai" or "Menso-re"? No, in fact, neither "Haisai" nor "Menso-re" are words that our island ancestors actually spoke.

屋良部御嶽と廖見福
緑、青、夕暮れの赤。屋良部半島を訪れると、息を飲むような光景に遭遇することがある。
