Yoshitaka Matsuda
Born in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture (now Kita Ward, Saitama City) in February 1969. Graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University. Joined the Tokachi Mainichi Shimbun (headquarters in Obihiro City, Hokkaido) in April 1991 as a reporter in the Political and Economic Affairs Department. Became a reporter in the editorial department of the Yaeyama Mainichi Shimbun (headquarters in Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture) in February 1993. Won the 25th Okinawa Times Publishing Culture Award (main prize) for "Taiwanese in Yaeyama" (2004/Nanzansha). Won the 14th Newspaper Workers' Union Journalist Grand Prize in 2010 for "Survival - Testimony of the Hungry 'Yaeyama Refugees'," a serial article in the Yaeyama Mainichi Shimbun that became the basis for "Taiwan Evacuation" (2010/Nanzansha).
