Sabani, a boat that opens the tide

A book that tells us that the Sabani is the embodiment of the wisdom of fishermen.

This book carefully introduces the entire process of making a Sabani (a traditional wooden boat that represents Okinawa's maritime culture) with photos and text. Through the life and upbringing of boat builder Yasuhiro Shinjo on Ikema Island in Miyako, where he was born, you can relive the spiritual culture of Okinawa nurtured by the deep blue sea. This book tells the story of how the Sabani is the crystallization of the wisdom of the fishermen.

Chika Yasumoto

Born in Tokyo in 1965. Graduated from Aoyama Gakuin Women's Junior College, Department of Child Education, in 1986. Worked as a kindergarten teacher and nursery teacher before moving to Iriomote Island in 1998. Published "Sabani, the Boat that Opens the Tide" (Nanzansha) and co-authored "The Complete Works of Minsa" (edited and published by the Azamiya Minsa Memorial Project Committee).
